The Rev. Michael Hamilton
A Letter from Bishop Alan Gates:
March 25, 2015
My sisters and brothers,
I am pleased to announce the appointment of Michael Hamilton to serve as archdeacon in the Diocese of Massachusetts. Michael succeeds Geof Smith, who recently moved to the Diocese of New Hampshire, having served us faithfully as archdeacon from 2011 through 2014. Along with Pat Zifcak, Michael will assist the bishops and our canon for ordained vocations with the formation, deployment, supervision and support for our deacons and deacons in formation.
As archdeacon, Michael will help oversee discernment and placement of deacons in congregations, deaneries and special diocesan strategic ministries, matching the deacons’ passions and gifts with the mission goals of the diocese and congregations. He will also help to coordinate pastoral care and continuing education opportunities for the deacons serving this diocese.
Since his ordination to the diaconate in 2007, Michael has served at Grace Church, Newton, and St. Paul’s Church, Bedford. While working as the coordinator of disaster planning and relief, Michael served at the altar of the Order of St. Anne in Arlington. He has assisted Pat Zifcak in the diaconal formation program. Most recently, Michael has served at St. Mary’s Church in Newton Lower Falls.
We will commission Michael for this new ministry at the service of blessing of oils and renewal of ordination vows at Emmanuel Church, Boston, on Tuesday, March 31. Please join me in welcoming Michael and working with him to sustain the vital ministries in our diocese.
Faithfully,
Alan M. Gates
