Renaissance Men Present On This Island Saturday, October 21 at 5:00 p.m with a guest appearance by St. Mary’s Choir
Renaissance Men, New England’s professional male vocal chamber ensemble, kicks off their exciting 2017-18 season with a revival of their On This Island concert repertoire, presented as a free performance at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church. All are welcome to join us for a reception following the performance.
Set sail on a journey to the British Isles with a highly diverse program honoring treasured English, Scottish, Irish, and Welsh musical traditions! Enjoy a diverse offering of men’s part songs both old and new, including works by Bairstow, Bantock, Vaughan Williams, and Benjamin Britten’s haunting Ballad of Little Musgrave and Lady Barnard. Also featuring contemporary composers Michael McGlynn, Paul Mealor, and Hilary Tann, the program is bound together by iconic folk tunes, including “The Last Rose of Summer” and “The Salley Gardens,” into one continuous concert experience.
Renaissance Men’s current season includes a beloved annual Holiday Gala, a concert series of little known men’s ensemble works by primarily operatic composers, and record release concerts for their upcoming debut album, RenMen Laments, featuring Thomas Tallis’s Lamentations of Jeremiah and Daniel Gawthrop’s Promises of Isaiah the Prophet.
