The Rev. Dr. Paul Kolbet, Interim Rector

The Rev. Dr. Paul Kolbet was ordained to the priesthood in 1996 and has since served several congregations in the Dioceses of Northern Indiana and Massachusetts. He studied for the priesthood at Yale Divinity School and then went on to earn a Ph.D. in theology at the University of Notre Dame. He has taught at the University of Notre Dame, Boston College, and is currently also a lecturer at Yale Divinity School. He is a frequent conference speaker, the author of Augustine and the Cure of Souls: Revising a Classical Ideal and co-editor of the Harp of Prophecy: Early Christian Interpretation of the Psalms. He has also published articles on such topics early Christian spiritual practices, psychology, and pastoral strategies. He and his wife, Amy, live in Wellesley. They have one daughter, Chloe.

Kirsten Johnson, Director of Music

Kirsten Johnson has been the Director of Music at St. Mary’s since 1992. She oversees all music programs, is the organist, and conducts the Adult and Junior Choirs. A native of Minnesota, she is a graduate of St. Olaf College and the Institute of Sacred Music at Yale Divinity School. She has a passion for liturgy and worship and enjoys making music with parishioners of all ages. Kirsten and her husband Jeff have two adult sons and in her spare time she enjoys singing, swimming, knitting, and traveling with her family.

Shelby White, Director of Youth Ministry and Religious Education

Shelby White, Director of Youth Ministry and Religious Education, joined St. Mary’s in 2015. A fourth generation Episcopalian, Shelby grew up in Southern California before she moved east for college and graduate school. She is a Montessori Teacher who is certified in Non-Violent Communication, Peace Education, and Godly Play. Shelby has extensive experience in non-profit management, special education, democratic education, community outreach, and is nearly bilingual. She is a board member in the small community where she lives with her family. In her spare time, Shelby enjoys travelling, cooking, writing, editing, and spending time with friends. Her favourite bible verse is John 3:30; her favourite hymn is, “It Is Well.” Please contact with questions about Children’s Programming at St. Mary’s.


Denise Flanagan, Parish Administrator

Denise has worked at St. Mary’s since 1992.  As the parish administrator, Denise coordinates publications, calendars and record keeping.  As the primary office support for the church for nearly 20 years, Denise can answer almost any question. Denise can be reached at
