If you haven’t been to St. Mary’s and are wondering what we’re about, please read on. We encourage you to visit us for a Sunday service, because words and pictures on our website cannot convey the power of the worship, music, fellowship activities, education and history of St. Mary’s. Only your experience can.
You may have met some of our members already. One quarter of us live in Newton Lower Falls or Wellesley Hills, within earshot of the bell, and walking distance to the church. We also draw heavily from Needham, Weston, Waltham and the western suburbs of Boston.
From September thru June there are two Sunday services, at 8AM and 10AM. Most people attend the 10AM service, which includes music, Sunday School, adult education and coffee hour. The 8AM service is more quiet and intimate. There are also mid-week services for Easter, Lent, Advent and Christmas. There is no “dress code” – some wear shirt and tie or a dress, while others come wearing khakis, jeans, or even shorts when the weather is warm.
The main Sunday service at 10AM lasts for about an hour and includes three Biblical readings, a sermon, music, prayer, and Holy Communion on most Sundays. There are greeters at the door who can help you answer questions, and ushers who can take you to your seat. Optional child care is provided for infants and preschool aged children during the service. Children in kindergarten through grade 5 begin church school at 9:45AM, and then rejoin their families for communion. (All are welcome to receive communion.) Following the service is a coffee hour with refreshments. For adults, a program of Adult Forums are held throughout the year after the 10AM service and coffee time.
For more information please call the church office at (617) 527-4769 to speak with the Reverend George Stevens, ask for names of neighbor members, or request a visit. We look forward to hearing from you.
